Amusement Machine Placement Tips

Where you put your machine matters as much as which machine you choose. These tips will help maximise earnings.

The Golden Rule: Visibility

If customers can't see the machine, they won't play it. Simple as that.

The ideal spot is visible from the bar. Customers ordering drinks see people playing, and that triggers interest. It's also easy to watch while waiting for service.

Fruit Machine Placement

Good Spots

  • Near the bar but not blocking service
  • Visible from main seating areas
  • Well-lit (but not direct sunlight on screen)
  • Away from fire exits and thoroughfares
  • Near power outlet (avoids trailing cables)

Bad Spots

  • Dark corners nobody visits
  • Near toilets (nobody lingers)
  • Blocking doorways or fire exits
  • In direct sunlight (screen glare)
  • So far from bar staff can't see problems

Pool Table Placement

Pool tables need careful planning because of the space required for cue action. Count on ~5ft clearance on all sides.

  • Level floor: Slightly uneven is fine — we shim tables to level. Major slopes are a problem.
  • Good lighting: A dedicated table light is ideal. Shadows across the table frustrate players.
  • Away from walkways: Nothing worse than getting bumped mid-shot.
  • Near seating: So players waiting can sit with their drinks.

Jukebox Placement

Jukeboxes are both functional (playing music) and social (choosing songs together). Place them where people naturally gather.

  • Near standing areas: People at the bar or high tables are more likely to queue songs.
  • Consider speaker placement:Built-in speakers work for smaller venues. Larger venues may need the jukebox to connect to your sound system.
  • Not too quiet: If it's tucked away, people forget it exists.

Boxing Machines & Arcade Games

These work best where there's already energy — near the pool table, close to the bar on busy nights, or in a dedicated games area.

Boxing machines need swing space (someone throwing a punch needs room). Keep them away from glass and fragile décor.

Practical Considerations

  • Power: Each machine needs a socket. Check what's available before deciding placement.
  • Wheelchair access: Don't block accessible routes with machines.
  • Security: Machines with cash should be visible to staff. CCTV coverage is wise.
  • Temperature: Avoid placing near radiators or in drafty spots. Electronics don't like extremes.
